In AT1 and AT2 you received important formative and generative feedback on your abstract that you were able to use to rewrite, rethink and reimagine your capstone project and used to write the paper that you drafted for your presentation in AT2. Now for AT3, your submission of a conference paper is the culmination of your capstone project and brings all three pieces of assessment together.
When you write the paper it is important to begin with your problematic/wondering and this is positioned tightly in the title of the paper. The purpose and the objectives are important to introduce to set up the paper, frame your query and establish your through line. Although your readers are in education, we work across sectors and different contexts, and we have very different professional lives so it’s important that our research is framed and positioned for this varied audience.
In self-study conferences papers, we also clearly state at the beginning of our paper what this self-study sought to achieve. What are the research questions you set out to explore, what is your and theoretical framing? what methods did you explore in your use of secondary data? and how has self-study methodology enabled you to deeply and critically explore your project? Importantly as you get to the end of the paper: what findings, conclusions and interpretations do you have? how does your paper contribute to the field?
Presenting your findings and supporting them with data is important here. Remember to think carefully about the politics of citation: what voices and bodies of knowledge privilege? Consider what contributions to self-study discourse and teacher education you are making. Ensure that you proof your work and that you consider the quality of your writing and its organisation as a conference paper.
