The purpose of this laboratory exercise is to give you experience in conducting a survey.
PART I: Conduct your study as described.

Previous research has used the following categories:Nondrinker – those who drink less than once a year or not at allInfrequent – those who drink at least once a year, but less than once a monthLight – those who drink at least once a month, but no more than 1-2 drinks per occasionModerate – those who drink at least once a month with no more than 4-5 drinks, once or twice a week with 1-3 drinks per occasion, or five times per occasion, or five times a week with one or less drinks per occasion
Moderate-heavy – those who drink at least once a month with six or more drinks per occasion, once or twice a week with 4-5 drinks per occasion, 4-5 times a week with 2-3 drinks, or four times a week with 2-3 drinks, or four times a week with 4-5 drinks per occasionHeavy – those who drink once or twice a week with six or more drinks per occasion or five times a week with 4-5 drinks per occasionCalculate participant’s “alcohol-related problems score”. Add two (2) points for each time “Once or more this past year” is selected; add one (1) point for each time “Prior to this year” is selected; and zero (0) when “Never” is selected. Calculate a total “alcohol-related problems score” for each participant.Analyze your results (i.e., total and percentage for alcohol drinking level and alcohol-related problems score; compare alcohol-related problems by alcohol drinking level). You may examine differences between males and females.
PART II: Submit a complete APA-style research report based on the study you conducted in Part I.
Find 3 recent (published in the last 10 years) research journal articlesrelated to your variables to include in your paper (e.g., gender differences in alcohol drinking behaviors/problems, differences in alcohol-related problems based on alcohol drinking level, etc.) for the introduction and literature review.Hypothesis: Sample hypothesis based on prior studies using the survey:An equal number of men and women will report drinking alcohol in the past year.Men will report significantly heavier drinking patterns than women.Individuals who report moderate to heavy drinking patterns will report more alcohol-related problems.Individuals who report early drinking ages will report more moderate to heavy drinking patterns than those who started drinking at a later age.Method: Describe your participants (i.e., how many {at least 25 participants}, gender, age, classification), the survey, participant recruitment details (how and where recruitment took place), how confidentiality was protected.Results: What did you find? Use the results to answer your research question (e.g., ‘Are there more alcohol-related problems for moderate to heavy drinkers?’). Don’t forget your Table and Figure.Discussion: Did your results support your hypothesis?
