DISCUSSION BOARD LEARNING ASSIGNMENTS
Over the duration of the course, students will be assigned four discussion board assignments. Each student will choose and respond to ONE question and review and comment on TWO answers by classmates in the “Discussion Board” section of blackboard using research evidence to support your source of the information. If you do this on a timely basis (i.e., when you are studying the topic), it will be helpful to both you and your classmates.
The assignment will be posted on the discussion board and students should actively discuss the chosen topic by posing questions or making additional comments based on current evidence-based literature. Initial post by Wednesday 23:59, reply to peers by Friday 23:59, and additional replies as appropriate by Saturday 23:59. Initial discussion post word count should be no more than 500 words; reply posts should be no more than 350 words. Students will be unable to see student posts until they have submitted their initial post for each discussion board. For grading criteria, see Discussion Board Participation Rubric.

High Blood pressure.
The evidenced based resources for comparison are HHS.gov, CDC.gov and AHRQ.gov.
The content from the health.gov website discuss on the important of getting blood pressure check regularly based on patient age and risk factors which include ethnicity, obesity, smoking, alcohol drinking, not exercising regularly and other health problems (Kidney failure, diabetes, and heart disease). Health.gov also discuss how to measure blood pressure, effect of high blood pressure during pregnancy and ways to manage high blood pressure.
The CDC.gov website explain how to control high blood pressure, intervention to prevent high blood pressure, self-measure blood pressure monitoring, medication management for high blood pressure, and what patient can do to improve high blood pressure.
AHRQ.gov website explain that high blood pressure is the cause of heart attack, heart failure, stroke, and chronic kidney disease. The website also discusses the Prevention, Detection, Evaluation, and Treatment of High Blood Pressure using (JNC7) blood pressure goals.
The 3 sources match with each other’s because they all discuss about the effects of high blood pressure, risk factors for high blood pressure and ways to prevent increase blood pressure which can lead to commodities and mortality. Health.gov focused on the risk factor which can lead to high blood pressure, the effect of high blood pressure during pregnancy and how to measure blood pressure. CDC.gov is similar to the content from health. gov because it explains how to control blood pressure, how to self-measure blood pressure and also discuss medication management for high blood pressure.AHRQ.gov website is different from the other 2 website because it discusses the prevention, detections, evaluation, and treatment of high blood pressure using JNC7 blood pressure goals.
These sources were chosen because all explain measure to reduce high pressure in patients. To prevent high blood pressure, it is very important to know the risk factors that can increase high blood pressure. It is also important know how to manage high blood pressure using medication management, self-monitoring blood pressure, eating healthy diet and exercising regularly.

Chronic Kidney Disease Prevention
 
            The health preventive topic discussed in the following paragraphs is Chronic Kidney Disease prevention, and the evidence based practice (EBP) resources used were the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney diseases (www.niddk.nih.gov), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (www.cdc.gov), and The National Kidney Foundation (www.kidney.org).
The National Institute of Health is globally known as one of the major research agencies that provides credible, useful, and valuable health related information to professionals and the public (www.nih.gov, 2018).  The NIH provides preventive information under the chronic kidney disease page, and topics such as risk factors, dietary modification, stress reduction, benefits from physical activity,  reducing alcohol consumption, and  quitting smoking (www.nih.gov, 2016).   Kidney disease prevention information can be easily found, and it’s presented in a formal format. With each preventive measure, a link can be found where more information and tools can be obtained (i.e., NIH weight body planer) (www.nih.gov, 2016).
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, just as the NIH, is a government agency that not only informs the public on communicable diseases but offers a fair number of preventive measures for chronic kidney disease in an easy-to-understand format for patients and providers (www.cdc.gov, 2020). It briefly explains the risk factors and what can be done to prevent this disease. It also offers tips on the different preventive measures, education,  some topic related articles, and resources for the public as well as for professionals (www.cdc.gov, 2020).  The CDC site provides evidence-based practice (EBP) guidelines in prevention that are simple to understand and are constantly updated. 
The National Kidney foundation is a nonprofit organization that aims to provide prevention of chronic kidney disease through education and research (www.kidney.org, 2021). Besides being easy to navigate, this site offers general information on chronic kidney disease prevention in lay terms and support for patients and families. The National Kidney Foundation also provides information, education, and resources through membership to professionals and providers (www.kidney.org, 2021).
Similarly, the three sources provide ample information on chronic kidney disease prevention that cover the areas of risk factors, dietary recommendations, physical activity requirements, stress management and/or social determinants of health, following provider’s recommendation and monitoring. They also have additional information, education, articles, tools for both patients and providers, to successfully prevent the disease, their content do not seem to contradict each other, and their site navigation is easy. One point to note, all three have contact information for additional help, questions, or comments.  Otherwise, the way the information is presented differs between the three.  The NIH site contains much more articles, it contents appear formal, and shows more information in each page, that might seem overwhelming from a patient’s side.  The CDC has a moderate amount of information on each page, with some helpful education links for providers, as well as for patients, but still covers the same areas of prevention as the NIH.  The National Kidney Foundation is the one that presents the information in a nonformal way, directed to the public, covering the same areas of prevention as the other sites, but also offering to have questions and concerns answered by a medical professional.  The National Kidney Foundation also performs a small test to determine the level of kidney problem or risk of kidney problems and walks the person through a series of information and education on chronic kidney disease prevention, that is easy to follow and understand (www.kidney.org, 2021).
