Should we ammend the section 230 communicatioins decency act and why

I need help revising this paper, I feel that it is lacking in what was actually asked. So these are things my professor ppointed out should be included:Make a ClaimWhat is the problem?Who is affected by the problem? What causes the problem?Has anyone tried to do anything about it?What is likely to happen in the future if the problem isnt solved?Propose Your SolutionWhat do you want to achieve? How exactly will your solution work?Has anything like it been tried elsewhere? Can you think of any reason why your solution might not work?Has anyone proposed this solution before?Consider Other SolutionsExamine other solutions that have been or ight be proposed for the problem. What are the advantages and disadvantages of those solutions? Why is your solution better?
ForWriting Project #1, you will investigate a problem and propose asolution. One of the most common writing projects often required byemployees is to craft a proposal or recommendation. Unlike newspapereditorials, such a document is not intended to rouse emotions but toprovide clear, reasoned advice to your audience regarding how toproceed. For Writing Project #1, you will be addressing the newlyelected Congress of the United States.
THE PROBLEM
For almost a decade, social media has increasingly come under attackby both Democrats and Republicans alike. Republicans often claim thatsocial media has a liberal bias and that conservative voices are oftensilenced for reasons that have more to do with political correctnessthan the accuracy of any given post. Democrats are more likely tosuggest these social media platforms give conspiracy theorists andpropagandists far too big a platform to provoke violence and spreadmisinformation. Towards the end of his administration, Trump even calledfor Congress to overturn section 230 of the 1996 Communications DecencyAct (CDA).The CDA was passed by Congress in 1996 and provided a broad legalframework with which the internet would develop over the next 25years. Section 230 of that act shields companies like Facebook, Google,Craigslist, Reddit, TikTok, and Twitter from legal liability in theevent that a third party posts harmful content on their platform.Traditional media outlets like CNN, The Wall Street Journal, or even the Corpus Christi Caller Timesenjoy far fewer protections and can be held liable in civil andcriminal court if their content proves injurious. For Writing Project#1, you will investigate this problem in further detail. What role hassocial media played in provoking civil unrest both here and abroad?Should social media be treated like other news outlets and be heldliable for what their users post? How do other countries deal withthese problems? Most importantly, either recommend specificchanges to section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, argueconvincingly for its repeal entirely, or make an argument that nochanges should be made at all. Either way, you will need todevelop a convincing and compelling argument that anticipate likelyrebuttals and integrates several secondary sources to develop its claim.THE PROPOSALObviously, the specifics of theproposal will vary from project to project but make sure that yourproposal is CLEAR. Your thesis statement should read something likeCongress should do __________. The audience for this proposal is theUnited States Congress but you may choose to address a specificrepresentative or senator.RESOURCESThis paper requires a combination of 5primary and/or secondary sources. Primary sources usually consists ofinterviews, polling data, and statistics that you yourself compile.Secondary sources usually consists of articles that a researcherlocates on line or in a library. For newspaper articles like those inthe Corpus Christi Caller-Times, I highly recommend usingNEWSBANK, one of the many databases available through the library’s webpage. At least TWO of your sources must be from writers that disagreewith your central claim.REQUIRED READING* Chapters 1, 2, 3, and 10 from The Bedford Guide for College Writers.* Chapters 12, 13, 14, and 15 from Easy Writer.PAPER REQUIREMENTSThe final draft should:* be 6-8 pages in length;* be typed and formatted according to MLA guidelines;* contain in-text documentation and a works cited listed with at least 5 sources.
