The sensitization program intends to help infants and their mothers increase exclusive breastfeeding rates and adherence. As aforementioned, only 58.3% of children had been exclusively breastfed in 2017 (CDC, 2020). However, this does not mean that most mothers ignore breastfeeding their children, but that they may lack the skills, knowledge, and strategies of EBF. The project will include mothers to provide them with information on some agencies and hospitals which offer sufficient breastfeeding support to overcome all the challenges associated with EBF. Thus, I will first visit the nearest nonprofit clinic to gather the needed data through surveys and interviews to reach the expecting and lactating mothers. Further, I will talk to their community health department head for them to spare some community health nurses from the Women, Infants and Children Supplemental Nutrition Program who I can include in the sensitization project. After I have received the community health nurse participants, I will urge them to collect all information concerning EBF and statistics and gather resources they can use to help me with the project.
Additionally, I will assess their neighborhoods to understand why they discontinued exclusive breastfeeding to reach pregnant and lactating mothers. The project will need five expectant mothers, three public health nurses, five lactating mothers, and two community agencies. After organizing this information, I will approach the La Leche League and Healthy Start Coalition of Orange County in Florida to present the data and urge them to collaborate with me. We will set a date with the organizations, which I will provide to all the participants. During the sensitization, I will present the topic under discussion and the data I collected through a PowerPoint. I will also present the participants with written materials with the data and information about the community agencies to help them. After the presentation, I will urge the public health nurses to present their data, support, and encouragement. Then I will give the community agencies a chance to offer resources, support, and motivation to increase breastfed exclusively in the first six months. Since all great meetings require interactions, I will call on any participant who may have any question that the nurses, agencies, or I can answer. Lastly, I will take their reviews and critics through a survey to ascertain if the sensitization project was a success. The meeting will end with me presenting all the participants with my regards.
